Cllr John Clendennen and Hughie Egan who have been chosen to stand for Fine Gael in the Birr area in June's local elections.
FINE Gael have selected two candidates to contest the local elections in the Birr Municipal District in June of this year.
Outgoing Councillor John Clendennen will be joined on the ticket by Hughie Egan, who also stood for the party in the 2019 elections, but narrowly missed out on election.
The selection convention was held in Dooly's Hotel, Birr last week. There are six seats in the Birr Municipal District and currently Cllr Clendennen is the only Fine Gael representative in the area and the party will be looking to increase that representation in the forthcoming elections, scheduled to be held on Friday, June 7.
Cllr Clendennen expressed his gratitude to everyone that took the time to travel to the selection convention, almost one hundred and fifty delegates, despite the difficult weather conditions.
Cllr Clendennen commented that “the massive show of support towards me in the ballot box is really appreciated and not something I take for granted. Congratulations to Hughie Egan having also received a nomination.”
Cllr Clendennen continued that he is looking forward to getting going with the campaign and hopefully with the support of all members and the broader electorate getting re-elected to Offaly County Council in June.
“I’m looking forward to getting going with the campaign, and hopefully I will be re-elected to Offaly County Council on June 7th,” he added.
