A fundraiser has been launched to help fulfil the dying wish of a Polish man who lived and worked in Tullamore for several years to be returned to his hometown in Poland for burial.

Friends of Krzysztof Pieton explained that they have set up a fundraiser on GoFundMe for the family of the deceased Krzysztof Pieton to cover all the expenses of transporting his body back to Poland.

Krzysztof died after four months battling his illness, they said

"Despite his courageous struggle, Krzysztof could not be saved. His family dearly desire to fulfil his last wish to be buried in his hometown in Poland," his friend Grzegorz Golec said.

"The estimated costs are approximately €8,000, a staggering amount, but we trust that together we can assist his family to cope financially in such a difficult time. We thank you in advance for all your support," he said.

Local business, KMK Metals Recycling also appealed to people to support the cause.

"Recently our colleague Krzysztof Pieton sadly passed away after battling an illness for the past four months. Krzysztof was a valued member of staff, having worked with KMK Metals Recycling for over five years. He had many friends here and is sadly missed," the company said in a social media post.

KMK Metals Recycling has donated €1,000. The campaign has now reached just over half its target.

"If you can spare anything, please consider donating. Rest In Peace Krzys," the business based in Cappincur Industrial Estate urged.

Krzysztof will be sadly missed by his loving wife Iwona, daughter Patrycja and her fiancé Patrick, his parents, sisters, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends. He lived in Ballin Rí in Tullamore.
