Driving ban and fines for Offaly man convicted of two drug-driving offences in Kildare

An Offaly man has been convicted for committing two drug-driving offences in North Kildare.

Judge Desmond Zaidan convicted Daniel Comerford, of Ballinagar, Tullamore, County Offaly, for the offences at Naas District Court.

Gardaí told the judge that on July 29, 2020, the 29-year-old was caught driving while under the influence of cannabis at Boycetown in Kilcock.

Then, it was heard that Mr Comerford was caught driving under the influence of cannabis at Kilcock on October 17, 2020.

He pleaded guilty to both offences, in addition to an offence for driving with no insurance.

It was heard that he has one previous conviction for driving with no insurance, but he has never been disqualified from driving.

Mr Comerford's solicitor, David Powderly, told Judge Zaidan that his client was apologetic over the incidents, and no longer uses cannabis.

Judge Desmond Zaidan fined Mr Comerford a total of €1,500 for the three offences (€500 each), and gave him three months to pay the fines.

He also imposed a two-year driving disqualification on Mr Comerford.
