The courtroom in Tullamore District Court

A woman who stole a handbag from a restaurant in Tullamore appeared before Judge Andrew Cody at Tullamore District Court.

In his evidence Sergeant James O'Sullivan said that on July 7, 2022, Nora Lynch, (51) 6, Ruanbeg Park, Ruanbeg Manor, Kildare, went into the staff area of Eddie Rockets, O'Connor Square, and took a handbag containing €100 cash. Ms Lynch had 88 previous convictions mostly for theft.

Solicitor Donal Farrelly said Nora Lynch had been addicted to heroin at the time of the offence. He said she is now off heroin and has a job in a warehouse and has turned her life around.

Judge Cody remarked that the defendant had 88 previous convictions. Mr Farrelly said they go back to 2021 but Judge Cody said that this one was in 2022.

Mr Farrelly said the handbag had been recovered so there was no loss. But Sgt O'Sullivan said the handbag was recovered minus the €100. Mr Farrelly said if she was given time she would pay it back.

Judge Cody directed that a probation report be prepared on the defendant. She was granted court bail to December 6, 2023.
