Martina Lowe outside the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
Martina Lowe from Kinnitty has been having an amazing experience working as a volunteer at the Special Olympics in Berlin since arriving last Friday.
She described the opening ceremony as being a great experience, something you could only dream of. She said being there in person showed what is involved in such an operation with the volunteers, coaches, everyone from the top who is and have been in charge of organising this rewarding event, and most importantly the athletes who are outstanding in their field of play in different sports.
The team of volunteers in their Motel have made friendships since Friday and they are having great craic and laughter and they look out for each other, help each other out, share the taxi fares to and from events or go in groups on the train to and from events.
They we are all involved on different days, some more than others have extra days so really it is going amazingly well. The shifts vary from day to day early morning or very early mornings.
Martina is doing Competition Managment Volunteer in table tennis.
