An Offaly farmer was convicted for assaulting a Department of Agriculture Inspector, during last week’s Tullamore District Court.

Brian Ennis,  Clonmeen, Rhode was summonsed for committing the assault on May 21, 2022 at Clonmeen  Rhode.

The defending solicitor Donal Farrelly said his client was pleading guilty.

Sergeant James O’Sullivan told the court that when an Inspector from the Department of Agriculture called he was met by Mr Ennis “who became confrontational and pushed him  in an attempt to get him off the farm.”

The solicitor pointed out that Mr Ennis is 21 years of age and has no previous convictions.

Judge Andrew Cody said this was “bullying behaviour” by the defendant towards the Inspector.

He sentenced to one month imprisonment, suspending for two years.
