The spa at the luxury Heritage Hotel in Killenard remains closed following a fire six days ago.
Staff and customers were forced to evacuate the building beside the luxury hotel and golf resort, last Wednesday morning, May 3. Nobody was injured.
Laois County Fire & Rescue Service were alerted to the fire at 8.15am. Firefighters from Portarlington and Monasterevin stations extinguished it within hours, but damage was caused to the interior of the building.
The Heritage Hotel confirmed the latest update to the Leinster Express / Laois Live on Monday, May 8.
“The spa is still closed. We are notifying members and guests. This is under instruction of the fire department. We have no confirmation yet of when it will reopen,” a spokesperson said.
On the day of the fire, the hotel had issued a statement confirming “a small fire”.
"Thanks to the efforts of the firecrews, it was quickly extinguished, and everyone was evacuated safely.
"The source of the fire is still being investigated. The spa experience and leisure centre are closed for today.
"However, the hotel which is located in a separate building is open and it's business as usual. We apologise for any inconvenience to our guests and members," they said.
