Kinnitty GAA seek review of parish rule
KINNITTY GAA Club have formally sought a review of Offaly's parish rule. The long standing rule has been in the news lately with Kinnitty seeking permission to play three young players who are living outside their parish boundaries in Drumcullen.
The three underage players were suspended for playing illegally with Kinnitty-Lusmagh last year and Kinnitty have now asked that a committee be put in place with an independent chairperson to review the rule.
The matter came up briefly at a meeting of the Offaly GAA County Board on Monday with secretary Colm Cummins saying that clubs would have to have an opportunity to discuss it and it would be on the agenda at the next meeting on April 11.
Meanwhile, an appeal by Tullamore over the status of players they want in the Cappincur area was postponed last week and is scheduled to come before the Offaly Hearings Committee this week. The players have been told they must affiliate with Cappincur and Tullamore have appealed against this.
An application by Coolderry and CRC Gaels to field a minor hurling team will also be discussed at the next meeting. The clubs were given the go ahead to field combined U-13 and 15 teams at an earlier meeting but were turned down for minor. Coolderry sought to have that overturned at Monday's meeting while Crinkill's Des O'Brien spoke about the difficulty they would have in fielding a minor team on their own.
Colm Cummins explained that the decision could only be overturned by way of a motion to the next meeting and it would require a three fifths majority.
