SHOOTING began this Monday morning on a digital and television advert for Tullamore Dew whiskey which will be viewed by millions across the globe in the coming months.

Just after 6.30am on Monday morning film crews descended on William Street in the Offaly capital to shoot the advert at Clarke's barber shop and Digan's public house.

Footage for the advert is also being shot at Lough Boora and Cappyroe near Ballinagar and the crew will return for filming in the town centre today, Wednesday.

In a post on Facebook, Digan's public house apologised to their customers that they could not open until 6.30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in order to facilitate filming.

The Tullamore Dew dog was also in town for the action and was escorted outside Digan's on Monday evening by proprietors Ray and Brian Digan.

Strict secrecy surrounds the advert and the Tribune was prohibited from taking photographs when scenes were being shot inside Digan's.

The advert will give huge publicity for Tullamore and Offaly as it will be viewed by tens of millions of people throughout the world.

The advert follows up on a billboard campaign by Tullamore Dew in the United States which featured local business people Anne McCormack of Tyrrell's shop and bakery, O'Moore St and Paul Bell of the Brewery Tap public house on Bridge St.
