A RECENT sitting of Tullamore District Court heard of two incidents of motor fuel theft in the town.

Before the court was Evan Lynham, Teirmohan, Donadea, Naas, Kildare. He was charged with stealing €30 of motor fuel from Maxol Spar Express, Church Road, Tullamore on July 13, 2020.

He was also charged with stealing €15 of motor fuel from Heffernan's Filling Station, O'Moore St, Tullamore on July 11, 2020.

The defending solicitor Donal Farrelly told the court that Mr Lynham was pleading guilty.

Sergeant James O'Sullivan said the defendant, after filling his vehicle with the fuel, made off without payment.

Sergeant O'Sullivan added that the accused had 29 previous convictions including drugs possession, theft and driving with no insurance.

“My client is in prison at the moment,” commented Mr Farrelly, “and is looking forward to coming out and being with his partner and two young children.”

“Have you been doing any courses while you are in prison?” Judge Cody asked the defendant. Mr Lynham replied that he is doing a welding course. Mr Farrelly pointed out that the defendant in general “seems to be doing well now.”

Judge Cody convicted and sentenced to two months imprisonment to take effect immediately.
