A CZECH national, who emigrated to Ireland from his native country during the summer, pleaded guilty to a number of theft incidents during the recent sitting of Tullamore District Court.

Before the court was Radak Moulis, 17 Macregol Park, Birr and he pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Garda Sergeant told the court that there was a traffic accident in Birr involving Mr Musil on August 14, 2022 during which the defendant's stolen vehicle was badly damaged.

"This car had in fact been stolen,” said the Sergeant, “taken from the backyard of a house. The keys were in the vehicle and it was unlocked when he stole it. The victim's house was located on Main Street, Banagher.”

On August 13 he stole a pedicycle from 5 Riverside Apartments in Birr. He was working in Banagher Concrete during this period, the Sergeant pointed out, and CCTV footage from Banagher Concrete shows him cycling the pedicycle.

The Gardai interviewed Mr Moulis at his place of work in Banagher Concrete where he made a full admission.

The Sergeant pointed out that prior to moving to Ireland Mr Moulis was convicted of a number of offences in the Czech Republic, going back several years, including forgery, robbery, property damage, fraud, and disorderly conduct.

The defending solicitor told the court Mr Moulis's wife is currently pregnant and this seems to have focussed his mind on leading a crime free life.

"He wants to apologise to all the victims of the crimes,” said the solicitor. “He was very drunk when the crimes happened and he doesn't recollect a lot of what happened. He is willing to offer a significant sum in compensation to the victims. He has already spent three and a half months in custody because of these crimes.”

Judge Cody convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years.
