A new garda has been appointed to Cloghan Garda Station.

The news will be warmly welcomed by the local community because the station has been without a garda since the summer, when Brendan Kenny retired.

Inspector Alan Kerins told the Midland Tribune that he was delighted to announce that Garda David Lewis will be manning the station.

“Unfortunately,” said the Inspector, “after Brendan Kenny retired, the post was left empty for several months. Thankfully that has now changed and I think David will do a very good job in his new role.

“He's a native of Tipperary and was previously stationed in Sligo and Drogheda. He was stationed in Birr for 12 years.

“He wants to be proactive and community embedded. With that in mind he's been talking to local residents and local businesses in recent weeks. David wants to serve the community as best he can, and with that in mind he is trying to get to know everyone as best he can.”
