RHODE GAA

CLG-Bord Na nOg Rod 5k Family Fun Run/Walk

A great crowd took part in the second  annual family fun run/walk on Saturday morning last. It was a great turnout in support of our under-age footballers and Rhode & Croghan Lourdes and it was a great social occasion also for parents and supporters to come together and have a chat  with lovely home made buns and cakes and off course a cup of tea back at the GAA grounds afterwards.  It was a very warm warning and luckily there were water stops along the way massive thanks and credit to Margaret Murphy & Annette Masterson who were also on hand and as you got over the  hill at Tubberdaly Castle Bridgie and Benny Kerrigan were on hand with water ad treats for kids and the older kids also. Great to see such community spirit by you all well done and thanks. A massive thank you has to go to all involved in orgainsing the event especially who helped out on the day including all the ladies  for great refreshments, lead drivers and stewards who were wonderful keeping us all safe along the route. Sympathy

Deepest sympathy is extended to the Murphy Family on the Passing of Marie Murphy Laurncetown. The relegation of Offaly Hurlers to the Joe McDonagh Cup for next year must be seen as an opportunity to regroup and start winning matches again.

Maynooth

The management and players of our senior football team wish to thank Aidan Minnock who organised a rigorous training session in Maynooth GAA Club grounds on Sunday. The session was conducted by former Laois player Leo Turley. Afterwards, the group enjoyed a meal in the Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth and made their way to Parnell Park to support Offaly hurlers in their game with Dublin. Unfortunately the result was disappointing.

The teams played many tournament and challenge matches against each other in the 1960’s and 70’s. Hopefully some of the men will be able to travel to renew old acquaintances. This is a very good idea from Rosemount GAA Club and one which could be replicated many times over.
