Sacred Heart Tullamore kick off the year with impressive win
The junior camogie team from Sacred Heart Secondary School in Tullamore started their season with a very good win over Scoil Dara from Kilcock on a score line of 2-8 to 1-2 recently.
Sacred Heart gained an early lead with a free from Rachel Fogarty in the first few minutes followed by a goal mouth scramble resulting in a goal from Abbie Harte.
Sacred Heart were gaining confidence as the minutes passed with the captain Lorna Jameson adding a brilliant point from play. Rebecca Walsh scored a goal after breaking the tackle and striking the ball into the back of the net.
Tullamore were in control and Rachel Fogarty scored another point from play just before half time. Kilcock replied with a goal and a point to bring the half time score to 2-3 to 1-1.
Kilcock never gave up and kept fighting until the very end, but it was the Sacred Heart who managed to come out on top with points from Aisling Gallagher and Katie Bourke in the second half. Eabha Flannagan scored a fantastic 45 metre free to bring the score to 2-6 to 1-2.
Rachel Fogarty scored another point after the hard work of the sacred heart midfielders Niamh Walsh and Ciara Murray. Abbie Harte getting her second score of the game secured the game on a final scoreline of 2-8 to 1-2, a nine-point win for the Offaly outfit.
