Offaly Minors travelled to Parnell’s GAA grounds, Coolock on Saturday to play last year’s beaten All Ireland finalists Dublin in the first round of the Leinster championship.
Leinster Ladies Minor Football Championship
Dublin had the advantage of the wind for the first half and they made an impact right away with a few wides as the Offaly backs were made to work hard for the opening minutes.
The first score of the day came from a Dublin free on the fourth minute. A great passage of play for the Dublin girls ensued with them scoring a further 1-03 before the ten minute mark.
The first score of the game came for Offaly in the fifteenth minute from a Roisin Egan free. Dublin continued to dominate the game as they forced the Offaly backs to work hard. There were a further two points for the Dubs as they extended their lead before Offaly scored their second point from an Aoife Corbett free. The half time the score was Offaly 0-2 Dublin 2-11
With the aid of a strong wind, Offaly took the first score of the half with a point from Roisin Egan but still faced an uphill battle for the half.
Offaly picked up two more points from Roisin again as the Offaly backs worked well to keep Dublin from scoring another goal. Offaly’s goal came in the nineteenth minute of the second after a fine passage of play from the girls with Ellie McEvoy rattling the Dubs net.
Another point from the boot of Roisin Egan was the last score of the game for the Faithful ladies, although they were very unlucky not to have scored a goal or two with full time looming nearer, but for the heroic saves from the Dublin keeper Orla McDonald.
The girls are are away to Kildare on Saturday in Rd 2. Time and venue TBC.
