In what could be a dress rehearsal for this year’s County Final, Shinrone overcame St Rynagh’s in a high scoring encounter in Banagher by 2-13 to 4-9 in Round 4 of the Offaly Senior Championship.
The result secures top spot for Shinrone who won all four of their group games and earns them a bye into the Senior semi-final. St Rynagh’s will join them in the semi-finals if they can see off the challenge of Lusmagh/Sinchill’s this Saturday.
Lusmagh/Sinchills come into that game off the back of a heavy 5-11 to 0-2 defeat to Tullamore last time out and they now look destined to finish bottom of Group 2.
The pick of the games in Group 2 this weekend sees Tullamore travel to take on Birr with the winner of that game securing third place in the table.
In Group 1, Drumcullen continued their winning run although they were forced to battle every inch of the way at home by a Tina Hannon inspired Naomh Brid side. The visitors led at the break but Drumcullen just edged the second-half and came through with a 2-11 to 2-7 win. If Drumcullen can get by their neighbours Kilcormac/Killoughey this Saturday, they will top Group 1 securing a place in the Senior quarter-finals and promotion to the top group for next year.
Waiting to pounce on any slip from Drumcullen are Naomh Brid who are just a point behind going into their final group game. However they will face a tough test from a St Cillian’s side who made their own piece of history in the previous round when they recorded their first ever win at adult grade overcoming Kinnitty by 3-10 to 1-9.
The teams who finish from second to fifth in Group 1 will make up the Intermediate quarter-finals. The two losers will compete in the Junior Final while the winners will advance to the Intermediate semi-finals where they will join the losers of the Senior quarter-finals.
All games Saturday, July 26
Kilcormac/Killoughey v Drumcullen; Naomh Brid v St Cillian’s; Kinnitty (bye)
Birr v Tullamore; Lusmagh/Sinchills v St Rynaghs; Shinrone (bye)
