THE Offaly Minor Ladies got their Leinster Championship off to a flying start when they recorded a good win over Carlow on Saturday in Carlow.
It was the first time that some of these girls played together but they bonded very well.
From the start put some great passes together, that got them great scores from Maeve Colman, Mariead Daly, Kelly Cunningham and Emma Corcoran.
The Carlow girls got on the scoreboard with scores from Elaine Ware, Tara Kehoe and Fiona O Keeffe to leave the half time score Offaly 5-4 to Carlow 1-3.
The second half saw the Offaly girls take control of the game and scores from Mary Kerrigan, Shauna Ward, Ciara McCormack, Sarah O’Rourke and Maeve Colman left no doubt as to the outcome of this clash.
Carlow put 2-1 on the scoreboard in the second half from Shauna Rea, Niamh Kelly and Malinda Walker to leave the final score 12-12 to 3-4.
It was great to see these young ladies play the game and the skill that these girls have developed over the years at club level is a credit to all clubs concerned. The future of Offaly Ladies Football is looking very bright indeed.
