ST Brigid’s Ken Casey will start an Allianz Football League game for the first time this year on Sunday as Offaly face Waterford in an important Division 4 round six contest at 12.45pm in Carriganore.
Casey, who had a long spell on the side-line owing to injury, was sprung as a sub during Offaly’s 2-11 to 1-11 victory over Carlow last Saturday in O’Connor Park, Tullamore and manager Emmet McDonnell along with selectors Paul Mollen and Gordon McDonnell have named him at full forward where he is flanked by Joe Maher (Ferbane) and Willie Mulhall (Walsh Island).
Casey set up Sean Pender for Offaly’s first goal against Carlow and he also kicked a vital point him-self following his 59th minute introduction.
The inclusion of Casey is the only change in personnel to the side which started against Carlow. Eoin Rigney (Rhode), who started at left half back, drops back on to a subs bench that also includes team captain Niall McNamee (still recovering from a quad injury) and Niall Darby. Both Niall’s were also introduced to the action during the second half of the Carlow encounter.
Edenderry’s Richie Dalton switches from centre forward to mid-field where he’ll partner Rhode’s Alan McNamee and Brian Connor (Walsh Island) moves from full to centre forward. Tullamore’s Michael Brazil, who lined out at mid-field against Carlow, will drop back to fill the left half back position.
Following victories over Leitrim and Carlow, Offaly will be seeking their third win in Division 4 in three consecutive weekends and their fourth in all of the campaign. Should they prevail it will set them up nicely for their final round encounter against Tipperary on Sunday, April 7th in O’Connor Park where the prize of promotion to Division 3 could be at stake.
Tullamore’s John Moloney isn’t available due to injury but Edenderry’s David Hanlon, who is on the mend from injury, is named among the subs. Bracknagh’s Peter Cunningham is unavailable for selection as he completes his two-game suspension for the red card he picked up during the March 10th win over Leitrim.
The Offaly squad to face Waterford is;
1 Alan Mulhall (Walsh Island)
2 Brian Darby (Rhode)
3 Paul McConway (Tullamore)
