Naomh Ciaran completed a hat-trick of Offaly Ladies Football Feile titles at the weekend and will now represent Offaly in Derry later in the year.

The Offaly Feile started on Saturday morning with nine Clubs participating. In Banagher St Rynagh’s, Naomh Ciaran, Tullamore and Edenderry went into battle and from that group the top three teams went forward to the Semi-finals and in Rhode Naomh Molaoise, Clara, St Broughan’s, St Manchan’s and Rhode fought hard for the top spot to go into the semi-finals from this group.

In Banagher last year’s All-Ireland Division 1 Feile Champions Naomh Ciaran came out on top with St Rynagh’s and Tullamore taking the other two semi final spots. Rhode had group two and with only one semi final spot coming from this group teams battled hard. St Broughan’s and Clara were even on points with only one game remaining with Clara coming away eventual winners and claiming the last semi-final spot.

On Sunday morning a large crowd of supporters gathered in Rhode for the semi-finals to watch Naomh Ciaran and St Rynagh’s battle it out. This was a very tough game with both teams giving it their all and Naomh Ciaran came away eventual winners and a spot in the Final. The other semi final took place between Clara and Tullamore and again was another highly contested game with Clara being victorious and through to face Naomh Ciaran in the final.

At 1.15 pm the whistle blew and the ball was thrown in by match referee Martin Carty. This was an excellent game of football. Clara battled hard and put in a great performance but unfortunately were no match for the reigning All-Ireland Champions.

Congratulations to Naomh Ciaran who for the third year running will be representing Offaly in the All Ireland Feile, which this year takes place in Derry.

In 2011 Naomh Ciaran were crowned Division 2 All-Ireland Feile Champions in Cork. In 2012 Laois/Offaly hosted the All-Ireland Feile. Naomh Ciaran playing in the Div 1 All-Ireland Feile final were victorious over reigning Champions Claregalway who were going for their third title in a row.

In 2013 Naomh Ciaran will be hoping to retain their Division 1 status as All–Ireland Champions. We here in Offaly hope that they are successful in retaining their All-Ireland status and Offaly Ladies Football wish them all the very best.
