IT was a good weekend for Shinrone as their hurlers claimed the Junior A title and their camogie team opened their Leinster Championship campaign with a win.
In the Junior Hurling Final Shinrone blasted out of the blocks scoring six points in the opening 17 minutes. Ballinamere took 21 minutes to open the scoring and at the break they trailed by 0-8 to 0-2.
They came out strong after the break and got back within three but Shinrone responded with four points in succession to re-establish a comfortable lead.
A point from Rory Buggy briefly stopped the rot for Ballinamere but a a goal for Shinrone from Adrian Cleary five minutes from time effectively ended the game as a contest.
Ballinamere did get a late consolation goal but it was too little too late as Shinrone won their eighth Junior title on a score of 1-14 to 1-7.
Meanwhile fresh from their win over Drumcullen in the Offaly Senior Final, the Shinrone camogie team made an impressive start in the Leinster Intermediate Championship. They lead by 1-6 to 0-6 at the break before going on to win by 2-11 to 0-8. They now face The Rower Inistioge of Kilkenny in the Leinster Final
