UNDERAGE football in Offaly is currently on the crest of a wave after both St Mary’s SS and Gallen CS qualified for All Ireland Senior Football A Finals in style.
The two sides will take to the field in Croke Park on Easter Saturday in what could be an historic day for schools football in Offaly.
Both sides were in action last Saturday in their semi-final and first up in the All Ireland Colleges A semi-final in Pearse Park in Longford were St Mary’s who overcame St Jarlath’s of Tuam by 1-12 to 1-6. At half-time the Edenderry school lead 0-11 to 1-2 and a penalty from Daniel Flynn straight after the restart all but wrapped up the game.
Just up the road in Strokestown, Gallen CS were in action in the All Ireland VS semi-final and they also put in a tremendous first half display to open up what turned out to be an unassailable lead. Davitt College threatened a fight back after the break but Gallen added a second goal late on taking the wind out of their opponents sails and sealing the comfortable win.
