Offaly U-16’s had a great win on Sunday against a very strong Westmeath team in the Leinster Championship semi-final in Clara.

This was a fantastic game of football with both teams giving it their all. The Offaly girls took control early in the first half and the score at the interval was Offaly 1-6 to Westmeath 1-3.

Westmeath came out in the second half with great determination and played some lovely football. Offaly gave away a lot of frees and the Westmeath free taker punished the faithful ladies and the visitors took the lead half way through the second half.

However the Offaly girls were not going to give away the chance of a Leinster final spot. Some great goal keeping from Offaly’s Lauren Dunne along with some crucial changes from the side-line saw the Offaly girls come away with a great victory. The final score was Offaly 4-9 to Westmeath 2-9. They now await the result of the Louth v Wicklow game to see who they will meet in the Leinster final in July.

Well done to the girls and the Management team of Tony Guinan, Padraig Malone, Gabriel Gorman, Deirdre Brickland-Kearney and Laura O’ Meara.
