This weekend saw the start of the Senior and Junior League’s in the county. On Saturday the 1st round kicked off with the Junior County Finalists from last year playing in Clara. It was another excellent game of football with both sides giving it their all. A lot of people thought the result would be the same as when these two teams last meet but St Vincent’s had other Ideas and came out winners on a score line of Clara 0-4 St Vincent’s 3-10.
Tullamore and Shamrocks was the other game played in the Junior League this weekend which saw Tullamore travel to Rahan on Sunday morning. Another great game was played with a draw resulting at the end. Shamrocks 4-9 to Tullamore 4-9.
Sunday morning saw Rhode and Edenderry meet in Croghan in yet another showdown. These two Teams know each other so well as they also meet in the League final last year and Rhode went on to win the Leinster League Title, and it looks like this Rhode team are determined to maintain the upper hand as they came out comfortable winners on a score line of Rhode 5-12 Edenderry 1-5
The Final Match of the day took place in Banagher, with Doon/Shannon Bridge travelling to take on St Rynagh’s. In what was described as a good entertaining game the St Rynagh’s Team came out the victors on a score line St Rynagh’s 4-18 to Ferbane 3-2. Next weekend sees Rhode v St, Rynagh’s and Doon/Shannon Bridge v Edenderry in the Senior League, while Clara v Tullamore and St Vincent’s v Gracefield in the Junior League. Best of luck to all teams.
