Offaly win toss to set up Walsh Cup test with Galway

Three Walsh Cup games cancelled because of frost

Offaly win toss to set up Walsh Cup test with Galway

Offaly and Galway will meet next weekend

OFFALY senior hurlers have come out on the right side of a toss to set up a Walsh Cup test in Galway next weekend.

They won the toss after their quarter-final against Antrim was cancelled on Sunday afternoon because of a frozen pitch in O'Connor Park, Tullamore.

The games between Galway v Kildare and Westmeath v Kilkenny were also called off for the same reason with Galway and Westmeath winning the toss on Sunday afternoon.

Fixtures will be finalised by Leinster Council on Monday but the Offaly v Galway game is likely to be at a Galway venue, possibly on Sunday. Westmeath will be away to the winners of Wexford and Dublin in the other quarter-final, which is fixed for Wednesday evening.

The Offaly v Antrim game was scheduled to take place at 2.00pm in O'Connor Park but the decision to postpone was made before the Antrim team made the long trek south.

With such a tight window before the National Hurling and Football Leagues start on January 24/25, it was agreed that there will be no rescheduled games with new regulations for the O'Byrne and Walsh Cups stipulating that a toss take place to decide cancelled fixtures.
