Shamrocks at the national Feile na nGael finals
A TALENTED group of emerging young hurlers in Offaly gave a great account of themselves when they competed at the national U15 Feile na Gael finals in Wexford on Saturday.
With injuries affecting the squad, Shamrocks competed very well in the top division against some top class outfits.
Great work has been done with underage hurling in the Rahan-Mucklagh based club in recent years and this group performed heroics when winning the U13 Hurling Championship in Offaly two years ago.
They showed their potential by winning the Offaly U15 feile hurling title this year, beating some of the top hurling clubs in Offaly on their way to success.
Accompanied by a large group of parents and supporters, Shamrocks were fiercely competitive, running Galway's Michael Cusack's close in their first Division 1 game before losing out by 1-7 to 1-4.
A super Conal Minnock goal saw them grab a 1-3 to 1-2 half time lead against Cashel King Cormac's in their second game but they could only manage one point in the second half as they lost by 2-5 to 1-4.
Oylegate-Glenbrien were comprehensive winners in the third and final group game, 3-6 to 1-4 to send them into the shield semi-final where they lost out by 2-8 to 2-4 to St Anne's of Rathangan in a thrilling game. Killian Moran and Conal Minnock got great goals for Shamrocks who exited with their heads held high- Rathangan showed their quality as they went on to beat Naomh Eanna of Gorey in the shield final.
