Offaly GAA club Clodiagh Gaels have led tributes to one of their stalwarts who has died after an illness.

Sean, a retired teacher, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in The Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore.

The Killeigh-Killurin club said on Thursday: "It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of club member Sean Kinnarney who passed away yesterday after an illness.

"Sean was a great GAA man where he represented Killurin and later he became deeply involved with Clodiagh Gaels since our inception in 2015.

"Sean was a leading figure on GAA committees. It would be a rare occurrence if Sean didn’t attend a Clodiagh Gaels match, be it hurling or football.

"We pass on our deepest condolences to Sean’s wife Liz, son Sean, daughters Catherine, Eilish & Claire, brothers Pat Joe & Andrew, sisters Kathleen, Phyllis, Pauline & Dolores," they concluded.

A further tribute from an old schoolmate on RIP.ie read: "My sincere sympathy to Sean's wife Elizabeth, to his son, daughters and extended family on Sean's passing. May Sean rest in peace.

"Fond memories of our time as class mates at CBS back in the 1970s.

"Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time."

Another wrote: "My sincere condolences to Elizabeth, Sean, Catherine, Eilish and Claire and all Johns extended family on his passing. I worked with John in Old Bawn for many years and he was the light of the staff room - a wonderful character, who brought laughter and fun to us all. I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. RIP John."
