A new radio station is broadcasting live from Offaly. Tullamore Community Radio is currently available on line via the tune-in app but the plan is that it will be broadcasting on FM later in the year.
Founded in 2017 by Tommy McCabe, Jason Maye and Liam Dumpleton, Tullamore Community Radio had one goal. They wanted to provide a community radio service to Tullamore and the surrounding areas. It currently broadcasts 24 hours, seven days a week online. The station is managed mostly by volunteers, which form its general membership.
The radio station operates with the co-operation and support of CRAOL. CRAOL, also called the Community Radio Forum of Ireland. It is the representative, co-ordinating, lobbying, training and support group for Irish Community Radio.
Every year the station aims to arrange training for its volunteers in co-operation with local schools and Vocational Education Committees, Further Education Services. New volunteers are given induction training in the station before going on air.Every week, across Ireland, around 2000 Community radio volunteers broadcast to 170,000 people in 20 fully licensed stations and 30 aspirant stations.
The inaugural meeting of Tullamore Community Radio took place on April 4th, 2017 with the initial aim of establishing a group of local volunteers interested in forming a working group to establish a radio station that would serve their town. Since then, they have had many meetings and more volunteers have joined.
Tommy McCabe is the Station Manager. Mr McCabe, a well known DJ and veteran radio presenter having many years of experience in radio, both in the production and presenting. Mr McCabe is also the Company's CEO.
Fellow founder of the company Jason Maye has a wealth of experience in setting up community radio and has invaluable experience in the world of business.
Liam Dumpleton is Company chairman and Secretary. He is also the Assistant Station Manager of the Company. Dumpleton is a qualified Broadcast Journalist. Having a long background in current affairs broadcasting and talk radio programming.
Stephen Connolly is the Financial Controller of the Company. Connolly is the Assistant Manager in Tullamore DEW and has a wealth of business experience behind him.
