THE new-look Peugeot 308 hatchback has arrived in Ireland. It boasts styling elements seen on the newly-launched 508, including Peugeot’s new signature floating grille to give an elegant and modern look.
All the strengths of the original 308 have been retained and heightened with the introduction of a Euro 5 1.6 HDi diesel engine and Peugeot’s innovative micro-hybrid eHDi Stop and Start technology.
Retailing from €20,495 (ex-works), standard equipment on the 308 Access 1.6 Hdi 92bhp model includes air conditioning, a full size spare wheel, ESP (electronic stability programme), ABS, EBFD (electronic brake force distribution), EBA (emergency brake assist), front and rear electric windows with child security, remote control central locking with deadlocks, 2 ISOFIX child seat fixtures and six SMART safety airbags.
The Active 1.6 Hdi 92bhp model retails from €21,995 (ex-works) and gains Bluetooth, front fog lamps, LED daylight running lights, auto wipers and lights, an electro-chrome rear view mirror, cruise control with speed limiter, a leather steering wheel, front and rear centre armrest and 16” alloy wheels.
An Active 1.6 Hdi 112bhp Ecomatique model retailing from €23,995 (ex-works) features Peugeot’s new eHDi Stop Start technology, which works to reduce consumption by up to 15% and CO2 emissions to 109g/km.
All three available models qualify for €104 annual road tax.
To ensure the 308 is as environmentally efficient as possible all factors affecting CO2 emissions have been optimised. Overall weight has been reduced by up to 25 kgs and the drag coefficient is a low 0.28 Cd.
Des Cannon, Peugeot’s Sales and Marketing Director said that since its launch in September 2007 over 900,000 units of the 308 have been sold worldwide.
“The new-look 308 will continue to perform well,” he insisted. “With a new signature grille and more equipment, the economical Peugeot 308 will remain one of our keys sellers in Ireland. We aim to sell 700 units before the end of the year.”
