Edenderry mourns the passing of a 'legend' and 'brilliant family man'
Edenderry Town FC has led tributes to their club vice president Sean 'Corky' Keogh, a hugely popular figure in the town and beyond.
"It was the very saddest of news that circulated around Edenderry this morning [Sunday] as the town lost a legend in Sean 'Corky' Keogh," the club said.
"The word legend is often overused but not in Sean Keogh’s case. Corky’s fantastic personality and wit made him one of the most popular and loved people in the town. He was renowned for his mastery of the one-liner that would leave you in stitches and everyone that knew him could quote a few classic stories of his impeccable comic timing," they added.
"Sean gave a massive chunk of his life to Edenderry Town FC and there was nothing he wasn’t involved in throughout his years of service to the club. A brilliant worker and always willing to give a hand whether that be as a part of management and backroom teams or as an active committee member, he was a constant presence over five decades for the Town.
"Corky served as club Vice President and up until very recently was still actively involved in running the club lotto, but perhaps one of his greatest of many wonderful moments involved in the club was his performance as Joe Dolce in the “Stars In Their Eyes” fundraiser back in 2012. Only Corky could pull off “Shaddap You Face”."
The club also recognised his private life, saying, "most of all though, Sean was a brilliant family man and a great friend to many. He passed far too soon, and he will be sadly missed by all of us."
They concluded: "Edenderry Town FC would like to offer its sincerest condolences to his loving wife Joan, his children Rhonda, Gina & David, grandchildren Aoife, Evan, Clodagh, Rían, Alex and Eoghan, sisters Mary, Ann and Dolores, sons-in-law Sean and David, daughter-in-law Elma, sisters-in-law, Patsy, Cora and Marie, brothers-in-law Peter, Benny, Mickey, Vince, Des (R.I.P), Noel, Ken, Joe, Robbie and Joe, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends."
