Offaly woman completes 'Purple Run' for Down Syndrome Ireland

Jackie is greeted at the line by her great-niece Katie

Edenderry woman Jackie Hickey was delighted to complete the fourth annual in aid of World Down Syndrome Day and Down Syndrome Ireland on March 24.

Jackie made the trip to the Phoenix Park with her family and was greeted and helped over the line by her great-niece Katie Mooney.

The run encouraged everyone to ‘run with us, not for us’ as the event is a celebration of people with Down syndrome in Ireland.

The event was open to all age groups and abilities and participants could choose to run, walk or push a buggy over the 5km or 1km distance, allowing all the family to take part.

The day was filled with fun, friendship and a bit of exercise for all the family – plus lots and lots of purple!

"We’d like to give our thanks and appreciation to all of our charity partners, event supporters, volunteers and of course to everyone who took part in the run – we had over 2,200 people take part in this year’s event which is over a 1,000 more than last years run," Down Syndrome Ireland said.
