Long-awaited Edenderry Festival taking shape

Plans for holding an Edenderry Festival in the coming are proceeding nicely, according to local councillor and community activist, Noel Cribbin.

Despite "a small bump on the road" when some of the executive committee had to resign due to work and other commitments, the work has continued on the many events planned for the event.

These include tournaments and competitions to be run by local sports clubs, while other organisations have come on board with plans for their own events.

A sub committee of The Edenderry Entertainers Commemorative Group also have plans in hand for many musical and general entertainment treats.

In a bid to raise funds for the festival, they will be running two concerts in the coming months. The first of those will be a choral performance by local choirs to be held in St.Mary’s Church. This will take place in mid March.

"The second concert might possibly be a revival of the hugely successful “Those Were The Days” show which was staged last year. The logistics of presenting this show are being ironed out but such was the reaction to the last time it was staged, it would be a surefire success," Noel told us.

The proposed venue for such a show would be the secondary school hall.

A full programme of festival events will be unveiled as the date draws closer.
