The incident happened on Tuesday, May 26 as many people were out enjoying the good weather at the Shannon in Banagher

Offaly Search and Recovery appealed via social media on Tuesday, May 26 for a driver that blocked their entrance to remove their vehicle.

The incident happened as many people visited the new swimming pool in Banagher to enjoy the sunshine.

The organisation posted on Facebook: “Could the intelligent person who has parked in front of our access for getting the boats out please remove their car.”

Offaly Search and Recovery also confirmed in the post that they were unable to launch their boats on Tuesday afternoon, May 26 as a result of the obstruction.

This led to a note being left on the car which read: “Parking here stops the search and recovery teams from doing their work.”

The post sparked a debate in the comments with some users believing that the driver should have had more awareness of their parking and the car should be towed.

One person posted: “ If you need to be told not to park in front of a search and rescue facility, maybe you shouldn't be driving full stop. They could be required to head out at any time. “

A second user stated: “Ring the guards and get it towed. “

Meanwhile, others commented that there should have been better signage and markings laid out alerting drivers parking in the area.

One user wrote: “No signage. No yellow box. Yes it's wrong but there's also nothing to help make it obvious.”

Another agreed: “It is unacceptable but unless there are signs including box junction, there is nothing you can do .”
