RIP: Popular Offaly 'gentleman' who had a passion for GAA paid tribute

Conor McGuinness was from Tullamore in Offaly

Tributes have been paid by many following the recent passing of well-known Offaly man Conor McGuinness.

Conor, better known as Con, was from Pearse Park, Tullamore, Offaly, formerly Aughavas, Leitrim and Mullahoran, Cavan.

He passed away peacefully on February 25.

Con will be sadly missed by his loving wife Mary, son Neil, daughters Sheila and Freda, daughter in law Anne, sons in law Paul McKeon and Kevin Ward, his adored grandchildren Colm, Conor, Eoin, Rory, Tom, Killian, Alice and Grace, brothers, sisters, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Many tributes have been paid to Con from family, friends and many people in his community who will miss him greatly.

One message said, "Mary and family so sorry to hear of cons passing x Con was one of life's true gentlemen and will be missed by all who knew him we will keep you all in our prayers at this sad time x Con rest in peace."

Another message said, "Sincere condolences to Mary and the extended McGuinness family on the sad passing of Con. I have great memories of Con over the years and I will always be grateful for the professional service he gave to our shop for over 50 years on a daily basis. He was witty, had a great turn of phrase and above all, he was a gentleman. In later years, I enjoyed our chats on the canal line. Rest in Peace Con."

"Sincere condolences to the McGuinness family on Con passing. Honest, decent, hardworking and very knowledgeable were his hallmarks. Always a pleasure to meet and chat in later years. Cavan’s loss was Tullamore’s and Offaly’s gain. RIP.Con," another tribute said.

"So sorry to hear of Cons passing, deepest sympathy to Mary and family. Con was a regular on the turnstiles in O'Connor Park, for many years, and a very solid G.A.A. man. Always had a smile on his face. Rest in peace Con," another message said.

Funeral Arrangements:

Reposing at O'Reilly's Funeral Home, Harbour Street, Tullamore, on Wednesday from 5pm until Removal at 7pm to the Church of the Assumption, Tullamore.

Funeral Mass on Thursday morning at 10am followed by Burial after Mass in Clonminch Cemetery, Tullamore.
