Martin Kearney is being remembered as "the main man" and "boss" at the busy MCK Hardware store in Edenderry. His RIP.ie death notice confirms he "passed away unexpectedly" and is "predeceased by his parents Jim and Gertie."

It adds: "He will be deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving family: wife Cathy, sons Derek, James and Darren, daughters-in-law Maura, Eilís and Caoimhe, grandchildren Cillian, Jake, Lucy, Eoin, Fiadh, Ēadoin, Leon, Makayla, Dylan, and Ashling, brothers and sister: Edwin, Mag, Eugene, Joe, Johnny, Bernard and Paul, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law especially Julie and Jella, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and all his work colleagues at Kearney Fabrication and MCK Hardware, Edenderry."

"It's with great sadness we announce the passing of the main man, boss, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many Martin Kearney," MCK Hardware posted on Instagram.

"He's left big shoes to fill and can only express our dearest thanks to everyone that's been in touch," they added.

Another tribute read: "Sincere condolences to Cathy, James, Derek, Darren and the extended Kearney and O'Neill family on the sad passing of Martin, I felt privileged to know Martin and lucky to have had a pint with him on occasion, he was so obliging; always there if you needed a hand. He will be sadly missed. May Martin rest in peace."

Another person wrote: "I knew Martin from the time he started out working in Larkins. He was a true gentleman and will be missed by all. May he rest in piece."

A third former colleague added: "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Martin. Please accept my sincerest condolences during this difficult time. Martin was not only a remarkable leader but also a kind and inspiring individual who touched the lives of many, including mine. I will always cherish the memories and lessons learned during my time working with him.

"My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you navigate this profound loss. May you find comfort in the love and support of those around you, and may Martin’s legacy continue to inspire and guide you."
