Four-year ban and fine at Tullamore District Court for Banagher motorist who had previously been disqualified for same offence

A FOUR-year driving ban and a suspended sentence were imposed on an uninsured motorist.

Tullamore District Court heard that Kayisha Herman Dube (41), Portavolla, Banagher, was stopped at Main Street in Banagher at 2.30pm on September 18 last.

Mr Dube's solicitor, Patrick Martin, entered pleas on his behalf and Sergeant Richard Thornton, court presenter, said the man had five previous convictions, including one for driving without insurance which resulted in a two-year ban from the road.

Judge Andrew Cody was also told the man had previously been convicted of speeding.

Mr Martin explained that while Mr Dube had driven within the period of the previous two-year disqualification, he had done so because two years after the court date but not two years after the ban was activated, which was later.

The solicitor added that the man was not currently working but had been employed previously. A father of three, his wife had passed away and he did not have much support.

Judge Cody imposed a €500 fine along with the four-year disqualification from driving, plus a three-month prison sentence, which was suspended for three years.

He granted legal aid.
