Concerns raised over 'noise pollution' from some pubs in Tullamore
Concerns have been raised over 'noise pollution' from some pubs in Tullamore
At a recent meeting of Tullamore Municipal District, Councillor Tony McCormack said loud music was coming from certain public houses in Tullamore.
He said there were a lot of people in the town affected by the music which starts early in the evening and continues late into the night.
Cllr McCormack who described it as 'noise pollution' said people got a reprieve over the Christmas period and because of Covid as pubs were closing at 8pm and people weren't getting this 'bump bump music'.
‘’I've experienced it myself. It starts at 4 or 5 o'clock in the evening and runs straight through. People are getting it hard enough without that going on. Is it something that our environment department could look at’’ asked Cllr McCormack.
According to the Citizens Information Service the ‘’main legislation is the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992, which defines environmental pollution as including noise that is a nuisance, or that would endanger human health or damage property or damage the environment.
It provides for various actions to be taken to prevent or limit noise pollution. Local authorities have powers under the Act to require measures to be taken to prevent or limit noise, and you can report a noise nuisance to the Environment Section of the relevant local authority.''
