The man himself, Santa Claus, is expected in Edenderry on Sunday, December 3, to join the families of the town as the Christmas lights are switched on for 2017.

People have been assured that despite the surfacing works currently taking place at O'Connell Square, the big switching on event will take place there at 6pm on December 3.

Santa and his elves will be on hand, and there are even rumours the big man will arrive on his sleigh.

Families will be entertained with the festive soundings of the always wonderful Boy's School choir, directed as usual by former Boy's School Principal, Sean Fitzgerald.

December 3 marks the start of the Christmas season in Edenderry, and it has also been revealed this week that free parking will be available in the town on the three Saturdays before Christmas, December 9, 16 and 23.

It is hoped that this move will attract people to shop locally for Christmas gifts and groceries in the run-up to Christmas.
