A TULLAMORE secondary school harvesting rain water for use by students as well as other eco-friendly measures has been awarded a prestigious prize for its new school building.
The Department of Education and Skills won the overall Green Award 2012 for the excellence and commitment to sustainability it adopted in designing and building of Coláiste Choilm in Tullamore at an awards ceremony in Dublin last Thursday.
The three storey building, which was described as “living laboratory for testing technologies” has an A2 energy rating. It has 87% rainwater recovery and has 45% carbon emissions reduction.
