EDENDERRY is set to reap the benefit of funding boosts of €300,000 which has been allocated for road improvements in the area as well funding for the provision of a pedestrian crossing at Oaklands Community College.
The news has been welcomed by Laois/Offaly Fine Gael TD Marcella Corcoran Kennedy who said she believed that it provides further evidence of the Government’s commitment to local infrastructure in the town.
The latest round of funding for the Regional and Local Roads Allocations sees €200,000 being allocated for specific improvements to the R402 Daingean to Edenderry road at Esker and Ballycon, and €100,000 being allocated for improvements to the R402 in Edenderry and environs.
Deputy Corcoran Kennedy commented, “This is a great boost for the North Offaly area and I am delighted to see that further improvements are to be carried out on the R402.
“Meanwhile, I warmly welcome the allocation of funding for the pedestrian crossing at Oaklands Community Collage because it’s a very busy intersection in Edenderry, particularly at school opening and closing times.
“I am delighted that funding has been made available for the crossing, which will make a significant difference to the safety of students and teachers at the school.”
