AGRI Aware, the farming and food educational body, has appointed Dr Vanessa Woods as their new Executive Director.
Dr Woods, who hails from a beef farm in Athboy, Co Meath holds an honours degree in Microbiology from the National University of Ireland Galway and a PhD in Animal Nutrition from University College Dublin.
For the past 11 years, Dr Woods has headed a number of key research programmes covering the broad spectrum of the agri-food industry, based at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI), Hillsborough.
Bernard Donohue, Chairman of Agri Aware welcomed Vanessa saying, “On behalf of the board and staff, we look forward to Vanessa heading the team and are enthusiastic about the contribution she will make. I am confident that her practical experience in the areas of leading and managing projects and her understanding of the issues that affect the farming and agri-food sectors will benefit our farmers and the industry.”
Vanessa herself added, “Coming from a farming background, I am well aware of the opportunities and challenges that the industry faces. I am excited about progressing the objectives of Agri Aware and in particular, communicating the important economic and social contribution that farming plays in this country.”
Vanessa will join the organisation this March and will lead projects including Agri Aware’s Family Farm in Dublin Zoo, the Incredible Edibles and consumer research.
