There will be something to suit all tastes at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre this month with an exciting line up of events planned.
As part of the Bealtaine Festival, Birr Film Club presents My House in Umbria on Tuesday May 22(tonight). Adapted from William Trevor’s novella of the same name it stars Dame Maggie Smith as a British romance novelist living in Italy who survives a terrorist train bombing and invites her fellow survivors to recuperate at her lavish Italian estate. This family gets along famously at least until the arrival of one of the survivor’s priggish uncle who strongly disapproves of the carefree lifestyle. A special Bealtaine Festival rate is available for this event.
Legitimate Bodies Dance Company with Birr Theatre and Arts Centre presents a thrilling evening of young people’s dance on Saturday May 26. Now in its third year, You(th) Share 2012 is an increasingly important date for youth dance companies from across the country and is a platform to see the progress of young dance performers including our own Offaly Youth Dance. Later that evening EDge; The Postgraduate Performance Company of London Contemporary Dance School will perform. EDge features a new generation of the most promising contemporary dancers performing commissions by exciting young choreographers and the tour showcases performances by a strong and diverse ensemble of 12 dancers with new full length works by internationally acclaimed artists. This unique programme is filled with high-level energy and technical excellence that pushes the performers to their limits and leaves you on the edge of your seat. There will also be workshops held in the afternoon with fantastic young dancers from Edge – contact the Box Office for further details.
