Foundation 13

Info:- Foundation 13 is an exciting new initiative by Offaly County Council in association with

The Arts Council of Ireland, aimed at highlighting international contemporary arts practice in preparation for the opening of Tullamore Community Arts Centre. Foundation 13 will encompass video, sculpture, installation, multimedia, performance, light and sound and will occupy multiple spaces in Tullamore town. Foundation 13 encourages public engagement, and over the four week run they will be hosting workshops and talks with artists, curators, gallery owners and facilitators. They will be also showcasing new theatre works, art house cinema events and collaborative based art projects.

Mapping Towns exhibition

Thurs 3rd October – 15th October at 8pm

Aras an Chontae, Tullamore

Description: Architectural explorations of Daingean, Banagher, Ferbane, Tullamore and Kinnitty.

Mapping Towns was undertaken in conjunction with local architects, secondary schools and community groups under the guidance of architect Orla Murphy. The project examines streetscapes, occupation and usage of buildings to encourage awareness of contemporary architecture while creating an appreciation of existing buildings. The exhibition is the observations and conclusions of students and community groups . This project is an initiative of the Arts, Heritage and Architecture Sections of Offaly County Council made possible through funding from the Arts Council and Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. The ‘Engaging with Architecture Scheme’ was developed as a partnership initiative in response to both the Government Policy on Architecture 2009-2015 Towards a Sustainable Future

Slieve Bloom Photography Club - Paris 2013 Exhibition

Fri 18th Oct– 15th November

Description: Exhibition of Photographs taken by the Slieve Bloom Photography Club on a visit to Paris. Official Launch Friday 18th October at Noon. Open Mon – Fri 9.30-4.30pm


Art Exhibition by Paul Weerasekera

Description: Paul was born in Sri Lanka and is now based in Limerick. He has held many exhibitions across Ireland and his work has sold internationally. We hope that you can visit and see the beautiful scenes from Offaly as captured by Paul.

1913 Lockout Display

Month of October

Banagher Library

Description: The display will contain copies of original articles from the Irish Times of October/ November 1913. The display will focus on the “Kiddies Scheme”, the plan to evacuate strikers’ children to England during the strike.

There will be book displays- a small junior section and an adult section with fiction and non-fiction. There will be a handout for teachers/ senior students on resources available online and in the library in relation to the lockout.
