Launch of Exhibition ‘Paris’ by Slieve Bloom Photography Club

Description: An exhibition of photographs taken in Paris during the Paris Music Festival in June 2013 by some members of the Slieve Bloom Photography Club. Exhibition on show during normal Library hours and continues until Friday 28th February 2014

Birr Film Club – “Love Is All You Need”

Description: Language Danish. A romantic comedy by Oscar-winning director Susanne Bier, about a widower/workaholic fruit-and-vegetable mogul, a cancer survivor weathering her husband’s infidelity. FilmOffaly Vendor Card Launch

Description: FilmOffaly – Offaly’s Film Commission invites local businesses and the public to the launch of FilmOffaly’s new Vendor Discount Card. This initiative was launched to the film industry in November of 2013 in Dublin. Many Offaly businesses have joined this new initiative to give discounts to film production companies filming in Offaly. FilmOffaly hopes that this vendor card will encourage more film production companies to Offaly and in turn boost the local economy. Come along to find out how your business can benefit or check out


Birr Film Club – “Midnight’s Children”

Based on Salman Rushdie’s Booker Prize-winning novel and combining historical fiction with dark fantasy, the story centres on Saleem Sinai, born at the stroke of midnight on the eve of India’s independence from Britain. As a child, he discovers he has the power to communicate with the hundreds of children around the nation born that night, and that each of them possesses a magical power. The strongest of these is Shiva, an angry, impoverished youth whose fate is inextricably linked to Saleem – Calgary International Film Festival 2012.

Description: Official Launch Sunday 9th February at 6pm Birr Theatre & Arts Centre opened by Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy TD. Having worked as an art teacher for twenty years, Maura Fahy made the decision to change career and become a full-time artist in 2001. Since then she has developed her own studio “Papillon” in Durrow and has exhibited widely throughout Ireland and abroad. Blending influences from her spirituality with those from nature and with sensitivity and harmony, the inspiration for this exhibition stems from a childhood fascination with the Dandelion flower – it’s shape, softness and it’s magical ability to disappear in a second.

Open Mon-Fri 1.00 – 5.30pm and during performances.
