Many Tidy Towns groups are asking for assistance in the Built Heritage section, derelict sites and overall development approach of the Tidy Towns competition.
An opportunity has now arisen under the Engage with Architecture project run by Offaly County Council at no financial cost to Tidy Town groups.
Offaly County Council is offering a limited number of community groups and secondary schools the opportunity to work with a local architect as a mentor to develop a visual manifestation of a street in Offaly showings the building function and uses in 2013. This will create awareness of the use of the streetscape, the protected structures, the quality of the architecture and the derelict sites. The project will be explained and guided by author and architect Orla Murphy. The project can place in February and March or September and October.
A second opportunity called Creating Space for Architecture is designed to re-imagine derelict sites in the streetscape again facilitated by a local architect – while this may not solve the matter, it may act as a catalyst for ideas and community awareness of the issues involved.
The meeting is on Thursday January 31st 2013 at 7pm in the Offaly Historical Society Premises, Bury Quay, Tullamor.
