TO mark its opening for the new season and to celebrate the bank holiday Easter weekend, Clara Bog Visitor Centre welcomed families from near and far for a fun-packed weekend of Easter and nature-based activities.
People of all ages enjoyed searching for the Easter bunnies hidden around the Visitor Centre on Saturday and discovering the Easter message they revealed.
Great fun was had as people raced through the centre on tip toes and on all fours, lifting flaps, peeking around corners and searching the displays in an attempt to find those hidden bunnies.
Many correct Bunny Hunt entries were received and entered into a draw for Easter egg prizes at the end of the day.
The fun continued with Easter themed arts and crafts where the children enjoyed creating chicks and bunny ears to wear for the hunt.
The Mini-science Monday event introduced families to the flora and fauna of the bog.
Using microscopes and magnifying glasses, visitors discovered what the local birds of prey had been eating by examining their pellets, matched feathers to birds, examining teeth marks left on a hazelnut by a mouse and inspecting hedgehog spines, plants and much more besides in close detail.
The tadpoles and pond life captured the attention of children and adults alike who enjoyed watching them whilst learning about frog facts and lifecycles.
Children also enjoyed making origami frogs to take home with them as well as creating pebble bugs and many other arts and crafts and puzzle solving activities that were on offer throughout the day.
Clara Bog Visitor Centre’s new season of Art and Craft mornings began last Saturday morning. No need to book, just turn up and enjoy making all kinds of art inspired by nature. This event is free.
Clara Bog Visitor Centre is now open Monday-Friday 10am to 5pm and Saturdays 10am to 1pm. Admission to the centre is free and suitable for all ages.
