On Inishmaan in 1934, there’s nothing for Cripple Billy to do, except go staring at cows, read books, and think about his dead parents.

His erratic “aunties” raised him, love him, worry about him, but cannot understand his ways.

When the island newsman, Johnny Pateen Mike announces the arrival on neighbouring Inishmore of the yank, Robert Flaherty, direct from Hollywood, to make “The Man of Aran”, all changes for Billy.

Can he seize his chance to escape? To make sense of who he is and trace his beginnings….?

A tale of sorrow, sarcasm, sudden and brutal violence, of strong language and dark humour, set in a time in Ireland where all these forces were very strong, and never far away.

After a very successful run, Banagher Drama Group present The Cripple of Inishmaan, in The Tuar Ard Theatre Moate on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4 at 8pm sharp. Booking is essential for this excellent production, call the theatre on 09064 82042.
