THE Tullamore Arts Festival, a colourful family weekend, will celebrate the best of Offaly and Midlands community with a two day programme of visual art, street performance, theatre, film, dance, and children’s events on Saturday May 5 and Sunday May 6.
The first year of this new community event to take place every May Bank holiday, will see pop-up art galleries, photography exhibition, mini theatre, local market, live music, street performers and children’s activities in Tullamore town centre, bringing a much needed economic boost and positive community spirit to Tullamore.
Local groups already confirmed include Tullamore Gospel Choir, St. Colmcille Pipe Band, Offaly Youth Theatre Project, Jasango, Tullamore Amateur Dramatics, Stage Craft Ireland and Tullamore Town Band. Pop up art galleries will bring fresh and colourful artistic creations to vacant commercial premises and the exhibition will showcase Offaly’s various art and creative forms.
A street market will take place on Distillery Lane showcasing food and craft with up to 20 stalls with locally handcrafted jewellery, homegrown vegetables, sauces, cheeses and jams. The TAF photographic exhibition will display works from local photographers and Slieve Bloom Photography Club.
Children’s activities will include facepainting, treasure hunt, pavement art, circus workshops & bouncy castles. A mini Theatre showcases local amateur dramatics with performances from Tullamore Amateur Dramatics, Offaly Youth Theatre Project and Jasango. Dance workshops for children with Andreas Cagnetti and visiting guests will take place on Saturday.
A live acoustic music stage will host up and coming musicians, singers, songwriters and choirs. Also on Sunday street performers will compete for the accolade of Tullamore Arts Festival Street Performer 2012 with a prize fund of €600.
