PWC Players return to Birr on Friday and Saturday, March 11 & 12 for their 11th annual visit with Pinocchio!
Gepetto is a kindly toymaker and in return for his endless generosity, the Blue Fairy brings Gepetto’s puppet Pinocchio to life but the evil Stromboli tries to kidnap Pinocchio to star in his travelling puppet show.
These annual productions are put on entirely through the efforts of over 200 volunteers across the firm, who work on every aspect of the production, from scriptwriting, choreography, costume, makeup, lighting through to backstage, orchestra and – of course! – singing and dancing on stage.
Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky is the Film Club offering on Tuesday, March 15. Paris, 1913: Coco Chanel, attends the landmark performance of Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. Shortly after the war, the two meet again and a beautifully judged story ensues, about the mutual attraction between two artists. This film embraces the brilliance of these two rebels, dissecting the intimacies of their personal lives with an empathy that leaves the viewer reaching for superlatives.
Birr Stage Guild presents Oklahoma! from Monday, March 28 – Saturday, April 2. Rogers & Hammerstein first and most popular musical bursts into life amid the prairies and corn fields of the Mid West Territories of Oklahoma in 1906. The action is played out by a host of colourful characters, swept along with great chorus numbers and classic songs.
As a nostalgic trip down memory lane for some and a wonderful new experience for others, this production of Oklahoma is sure to sell out fast!
