SEACHTAIN na Gaeilge 2012 runs nationally from next Monday, March 5 to 17. This annual festival is a celebration of Irish language and culture and boasts a huge range of events at many locations and for all ages.
Once again Offaly Library Service is joining in the celebrations with a series of events and activities in our branch network.
As well as holding displays of Irish books and other media for adults and children in each library, a selected list of websites relating to Irish language and culture will be accessible free of charge in each library during Seachtain na Gaeilge. A series of events will also be taking place in various branches.
Clara Library will be playing host to Brosna Comhaltas on Thursday, March 8 at 7.30pm for a Seisíun sa Leabharlann which promises to be an evening of ceol agus craic. Musicians are also invited to come along on the night and join in.
There will be a special Storytime for under 10s on Thursday, March 15 at 7pm with tales of Ireland as Béarla agus cúpla scéalta as Gaeilge. Conversational Irish Sessions for Adults will take place Wednesday, March 7 and Wednesday, March 14 between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.
Edenderry Library will have Gearr Scannáin agus Comhra sa Leabharlann on Wednesday, March 7 at 7pm.
An Exhibition of Traditional Irish Musicians by Eamonn Byrne will run from Tuesday, March 13 to Saturday, March 24. The launch of this exhibition will take place on Wednesday, March 14 at 7pm.
Younger users of Edenderry Library will have a chance to take part in making St Patrick’s Day decorations with Avril and Amanda on Wednesday, March 14 at 3.30pm. This workshop is for 6 – 12 year olds and booking is essential.
Eden Chorale will be performing on Wednesday, March 14 at 8pm and they will be accompanied by local poet Dr. Philip Brady. There will also be a special visit by the Gaelscoil to Edenderry Library during Seachtain na Gaeilge.
Tullamore Library will be playing host to Ceol sa Leabharlann on Saturday, March 10 at 11am when music will be provided by children from Killeigh Comhaltas.
Birr Library will be having a morning of Ceol agus Craic sa Leabharlann all morning on Saturday, March 10 with music by Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Eireann and Gearr Scannáin as Gaeilge. Fancy dress is welcome. There will also be a lecture by the GIY Group that morning on native plants.
Younger users of Ferbane Library will have the opportunity to take part in St. Patrick’s Day Crafts with Karen on Saturday, March 10 at 11am. This workshop is intended for ages 6 – 8 and booking is essential.
