THE 6th annual ShakeFest will take place this Saturday, May 28 at Charleville Castle, Tullamore. This is a community-run holistic fair weekend for families, international dance enthusiasts and all active citizens!
ShakeFest aims to deliver an enjoyable day out for all, with creative workshops for all with a multicultural and international theme, and amazing dance and musical acts and demonstrations all day long!
Shakefest is perfect for a family day out – there are local market stalls, holistic therapies and afternoon dance performances in the forecourt area, and an outside stage for our afternoon dance and music performances. Saturday is the official World Cultures Fair Day, with an option to camp overnight and soak up the relaxing atmosphere the day after.
Let’s not forget all of the activities for the children! There is a great variety of workshops and activities for the children all afternoon in the castle and in the castle forecourt. Face Painting and a Bouncy Castle will be there, and picnic areas are abundant. In light of the the Phoenix Festival being postponed, it is important to still provide County Offaly with creative summer activities and events for all ages and continue to gather strong local community spirit – especially in this economic climate, it is also important to provide the opportunity for families to spend time together with affordability and great value, said a ShakeFest spokesperson.
A ShakeFest family entrance fee to the grounds is only €20 which includes 2 adults and up to 3 children! A regular adult admission fee is also only €10! ShakeFest has also provided local businesses throughout Co. Offaly with discount coupons on entrance fees so be on the lookout for big savings. Children’s workshops are as low as only €8 each for 1 hour workshops, and adult workshops are as low as only €15 for 1.5 hour workshops.
Gates to ShakeFest open at 12pm sharp and attendants can expect all afternoon entertainment, dance demonstrations from 12:30pm, and some extra special treats such as Harpist Shelly Jeffares, the Mountbolus Pipe Band at 2:30pm and an exciting performance by ‘The Dancing Jewels’ Children’s Jazz and Ballet school in which 40 children will be performing at 3:30pm in the castle forecourt followed at 6.30pm by Quirky and Eclectic 8 piece band BLIND YACKETY.
For those who want more, ShakeFest will be providing a captivating multicultural dance performance at 8pm followed by a compelling Fire Show by local dance Troupe The Red Embers and guests as well as our final amazing Gypsy-Balkan-Jazz band called the Underskore Orchestra! All musical artists contribute their performances on a not for profit basis. This year, Charleville Castle is heading ‘Operation Raise The Roof’ in which all proceeds will be going towards re-constructing the Charleville Castle Chapel Roof which will aid in preserving the castle for further community involved activities for young and old, and to help sustain it as the main Arts and Culture Centre of the Irish Midlands.
